    Arts Place is currently accepting registrations for the MusicWorks program.

    MusicWorks offers a variety of music experiences for all ages. Students learn proper playing techniques, how to read music and the fundamentals of music theory. Knowledgeable teaching artists share their passion and enthusiasm for music with nearly 200 students yearly. The program includes, individual weekly lessons for a wide variety of instruments, group lessons for piano, guitar, or violin and several ensembles.

    The Jay County Community band is also a part of MusicWorks in Portland, along with the newly formed handbell choir, The Arts Place Ringers.

    MusicWorks lessons are offered at the Arts Place, Blackford County Arts Center, 107 W. Washington St., Hartford City,, and the Arts Place, Portland Center, 131 E.Walnut St. in Portland.

    Registration forms and brochures are available at both centers and online at artsland.org. Lessons begin the week of Aug. 20 and continue through May of 2019, for a total of 33 weeks.  Scholarships based on financial need as well as merit-based scholarships are available. Applications can be found in the MusicWorks brochures, at each center, and online. Students enrolled in individual lessons may also join any one ensemble for free.
