BHS Winter Sports Awards Program 

The Winter Sports Award Program was held recently via an online broadcast by the Blackford Sports Network on YouTube.

After a brief opening speech by Athletic Director Tony Uggen, each varsity head coach shared a few words about their seasons and their award winners.

Girls’ Basketball 

Earning a Major B’s were Cayley Hodges and Olivia Waters. 

Earning patches for subsequent Major B’s were Bre Adney, Erin Cagle, Reaghan Harding, Gabrielle Reid, Grace Simmons, Jaycie Sones, Helen Whitesell, Macy Cagle, Kiley Eppard and Olivia Leas. 

Earning Captain’s patches were Reaghan Harding and Gabrielle Reid. 

Earning JV B’s were Valentina Donato, Leah Cale, Emma Daugherty, Katelyn Speidel and Brianna Stroble. 

Earning JV certificates for subsequent JV B’s were Alexa Hurd, Khaira Westerfield, Casandra Mounsey and Ava Milholland. 

Earning their numerals were Leah Cale, Emma Daugherty, Cayley Hodges, Katelyn Speidel, Brianna Stroble and Olivia Waters. 

Other individual awards went to Olivia Leas (Most Point/Rebounds), Olivia Waters (Most Steals/Assists/Blocks), Katelyn Speidel (Most Improved), Kiley Eppard (Miss Hustle) and Brianna Stroble (Mental Toughness). 

Earning All-Conference honors were Olivia Leas and Olivia Waters. 

The Lady Bruins finished the season 10-13 and finished 4th in the CIC. They also held The Belle for a week after upsetting Oak Hill. The Lady Bruins were the first team to hold The Belle, other than Oak Hill, in over four years. 

They were coached by Mitch Waters with assistance from Shelby Martin, Erick Noland and Gary Rhoton. The JV girls went 8-12. They were coached by Erick Noland. 

Cheer 

Those earning Major B’s were Kathryn Clamme, Savannah Beard, Alyssa McFeely and Khalie Scott. 

Earning patches for subsequent Major B’s were Kali Hodson, Khaley Sills, Natalie Thurman, Kaylin Clamme, Sophia Jennerjahn, Abigail Langdon, Kelsey Mosley, Jenna Payne and Gabe Foster. 

Earning JV Bs were Kelsi Bade, Una Bowman, Chloe Lacy, Ave Milholland, Laney Neuenschwander, Kaybree Norton and Madysen Whitesell. 

Earning her JV certificate was Nicholas Thornburgh. 

Earning numerals were Kelsi Bade, Una Bowman, Chloe Lacy, Ave Milholland, Laney Neuenschwander, Kaybree Norton and Madysen Whitesell. 

Earning individual awards were Chloe Lacy (Most Improved Cheerleader), Kali Hodson (Paw Award) and Sophia Jennerjahn (Dedication Award). 

The cheer squad was coached by Danielle Goodspeed with assistance from Sidney Goodspeed. 

Wrestling 

Earning a Major B were Nicholas Aulbach, Demi Daugherty (Mgr), Kendric Dishman and Bryan Hernandez. 

Earning patches for subsequent Major B’s were Isaac Justice, Amber Slagle, Ethan Watt, Todd Thornburgh, Ian Reid and Evan Watt. 

Earning JV B’s were Andrew Conwell and Sarah Ellison. 

Earning their numerals were Demi Daugherty (Mgr) and Sarah Ellison. 

Earning All-CIC honors was Ethan Watt. 

Earning Captain’s patches were Isaac Justice and Ethan Watt. 

Earning individual awards were Nich Aulback (Cracker Jack Award), Demi Daugherty (Mgr)(Cracker Jack Award), Bryan Hernandez (20/10 Award), Isaac Justice (20/10 Awards) and Ethan Watt (20/10 Award). 

The Bruins finished 5-27 on the season. They finished 7th in the CIC. They were coached by Greg Garringer with assistance from Elijah Justice. 

Boys’ Swimming 

Earning their Major B’s were Hayden Cristobal and Braxton Malott. 

Earning a patch for subsequent Major B’s were Ethan Miller, Collin Penrod, Drew Caldwell, Kyle Crabtree, Bode Malott, Lance Manley, Kendall Scher, Carson Sehy and Ethan Hidy. 

Earning JV B’s were CJ Crouse and Kadin Duke. 

Earning their numerals were CJ Crouse and Kadin Duke. 

Earning Captain’s patches were Collin Penrod and Bode Malott. 

Earning an individual award was Braxton Malott (Most Dedicated). 

Several school records were broken. Those included: 200 Medley Relay (1:48.78): Drew Caldwell, Ethan Miller, Bode Malott, Collin Penrod;

200 Freestyle Relay (1:36.81): Drew Caldwell, Carson Sehy, Bode Malott, Collin Penrod; 200 Individual Medley (2:08.33): Drew Caldwell; 100 Backstroke (56.63): Drew Caldwell 

The Bruins finished 12-4 which was the most wins in a season ever by the boy’s program. They were coached by Kristie Malott with assistance from Adam Bell and Christy Lytle. 

Girls’ Swimming 

Earning Major B’s were Kyleigh Hahn and Madysen Whitesell. 

Earning patches for subsequent Major B’s were Natalie Blakely, Brooke Rogers, Kylee Darnell, Kaylin Clamme, Sophia Jennerjahn, Abigail Langdon, Ruby Slentz, Cami Caldwell, Kelli Rinker and Vanessa Carroll (Mgr). 

Earning a JV B was Elizabeth Howard. 

Earning JV certificates were Leah Cale and Madilynn Ford. 

Earning her numerals was Elizabeth Howard. 

Earning a Captain’s patch were Natalie Blakely and Ruby Slentz. 

The Lady Bruins finished the season 4-12 and were coached by Kristie Malott with assistance from Adam Bell and Christy Lytle. 

Boys’ Basketball 

Earning Major B’s were Landon Grimes, Tommie Stiles, Mickey Waters, Dawson Hundley and Alexandra Brown (Mgr). 

Earning a patch for a subsequent Major B were Rydge Dunica, Peyton Hurd, Nicholas Otwinowski, Brandon Stroble, Dalton Willmann, Dane Baker, Luke Brown, Cam Elam, Steffan Hoover, Max Wors, Scott Winger, Dayton Hoover, Elizabeth Langdon (Mgr), Kayli Henderson (Mgr), Alison King (Mgr), Emma Lightle (Mgr) and Shelby Groves (Mgr). 

Earning JV certificates for subsequent JV B’s was Jerrid Kershner and Carson Smith. 

Earning their numerals were Landon Grimes, Dakota Carmack, Ty Daily, Derrick Elliott, Dawson Hundley, Denver Kemp, Nate Limle, Eli Martin, Dylan McClure and Brayden Rouch. 

Earning a Captain’s patch was Rydge Dunica, Peyton Hurd, Nicholas Otwinowski, Brandon Stroble, Dalton Willmann and Luke Brown. 

Earning Frosh/C-Team certificates were Dakota Carmack, Ty Daily, Derrick Elliott, Denver Kemp, Nate Limle, Eli Martin, Dylan McClure and Brayden Rouch. 

Earning individual varsity awards were Luke Brown (FT %, Most Assists, Most Steals), Brandon Stroble (3-pt FG %), Dalton Willmann (2-pt FG %, Most Rebounds) and Max Wors (Charges Taken). 

Earning individual JV awards were Landon Grimes (2-pt FG %, Most Rebounds), Dayton Hoover (Most Assists), Dawson Hundley (Most Steals), Jerrid Kershner (FT %) and Mickey Waters (3-pt FG %). 

Earning Senior Manager Awards were Elizabeth Langdon, Alison King and Kayli Henderson. 

The Bruins were 21-5 on the season, were sectional champions and finished 2nd in the CIC. They were coached by Jerry Hoover with assistance from Don Hoover, Grant Newlin, Kent Davis, Kalup George, Brian Ludwig and Scott Love. The JV finished 18-2 and were coached by Grant Newlin. The C-team finished 4-14 and were coached by Kent Davis and Kalup George with assistance from Brian Ludwig.

BHS Spring Sports Awards Program 

The Spring Sports Award Program was held on Thursday, May 14 via an online broadcast by the Blackford Sports Network on YouTube. 

The video and another with the girls tennis and Unified Track coaches sharing their awards from home. 

After a brief opening speech by Athletic Director Tony Uggen each varsity head coach shared a few words about losing the season due to Covid and any other thoughts they wished to share about “what could have been” and listed their award winners. 

“It was disappointing and strange not having a spring season,” shared Uggen. “I feel bad for all our athletes, coaches, managers, fans, etc. who were looking forward to what should have been a pretty successful finish to the athletic school year, but it wasn’t meant to be. 

“I wish the seniors well as they head out into the world. I hope they enjoyed the experiences they shared over the past four years despite losing the end of the basketball tournament, spring sports and their final days in school.” 

NOTE: Those listed as on “hold” will receive the same award (retroactively) that they earn in ’21 as it was not clearly known as to whether they would have received a Major B in ’20 since the season was not played.

Boys’ Golf 

Earning patches for subsequent Major B’s were Tyler Brown, Lance Manley and Bryce Strait. 

Those currently on “hold” for Major B’s were Landon Grimes, CJ Crouse, Anthony Dalley, Dominic Fortino and Damon Thompson. 

The golf team is coached by Dale Cunningham. He is assisted by John Crist.

Boys’ Track 

Those earning Major B’s were Caleb Felver, Andrew Conwell, Damien Ellenburg, Isaiah Miller and Nathan Elliott. 

Earning patches for subsequent Major B’s were Kinser Crabtree, Liam Gulley, Collin Penrod, Myles Randall, Cameron Rinker, Ethan Watt, Dalton Willmann, Connor Gulley, Lance Manley, Kendall Scher, L’trel Schlotter, Carson Sehy, Brayden Smith, Quinten Teer, Noah Kitterman, Michael Norris, Evan Watt, Scott Winger, Ethan Hidy, Braxton Malott and Donavan Osborn. 

Earning their numerals were Damien Ellenburg and Nathan Elliott. 

The boys track team is coached by Randy Sehy with assistance from Grace Shockey and Doug Osborn.

Girls’ Track 

Earning their letter jacket was Kaylin Clamme. 

Earning a Major B was Leah Cale, Sarah Ellison and Brianna Stroble.

The girls track is coached by Randy Sehy with assistance from Grace Shockey and Doug Osborn.

Girls’ Tennis 

Earning her Major B was Dayton McCulloch. 

Earning a patch for subsequent Major B’s were Kaleigh Clevenger, Jenna Keplinger, Skylar Stephens, Brianna McNeal, Gavin Wolfgang (Mgr) and Jace Keplinger (Mgr). 

Those on “hold” until ’21 were Kendall Hess, Vanessa Carroll, Kelsi Bade, Kaybree Norton, Riata Rouch and Madysen Whitesell. 

The Lady Bruins were coached by Brian Smith.

Softball 

Earning patches for subsequent Major B’s were Erin Cagle, Reaghan Harding, Emma Jacobs, Haleigh Wick, Alexa Hurd, Grace Simmons, Macy Cagle, Casandra Mounsey, Bethany Elkins (Mgr), Matthew Bailey (Mgr) and Darren Ramseyer (Mgr). 

Earning a Captain’s patch were Erin Cagle, Reaghan Harding, Emma Jacobs and Haleigh Wick. 

The softball team is coached by Scott Cagle with assistance from John Simmons and Courtney Moriarty.

Unified Track 

Earning patches for subsequent Major B’s were Jen McCaffery, Bronson Alter, Kyler Brock, Angel Thomas, Logan Wilson and Austin Rountree. 

Earning certificates for being “partners” were Emily Huffman and Jeni Rogers. 

The Bruins were coached by Linda Wallace. She was assisted by Joni Duren and Tyler McDonald.

Baseball 

Earning their award jacket with 7 letters was Josh Jennings. 

Earning patches for subsequent Major B’s were Peyton Hurd, Josh Jennings, Isaac Justice, Caleb Mealy, Nick Otwinowski, Brandon Stroble, Brandon Wine, Drew Caldwell, Cam Elam, Gabrielle Henderson (Mgr) and Kayli Henderson (Mgr). 

Those on “hold” until ’21 were Dane Baker and Taylor Glawson. 

Earning JV B’s were Derrick Elliott, Nate Limle, Eli Martin and Landon Rogers.
