Blackford came out with everything they had, but Eastbrook was relentless and knocked down shot after shot late to top the Lady Bruins, 82- 57 in the semifinals of the sectional.
In the first half the Lady Bruins tried to wear Eastbrook out by running a full court press and getting after them as much as possible.
Eastbrook was able to not only take the pressure, but they were able to score 38 points in the first half by connecting on 2 three pointers, 8 FTs, and 12 2 pointers. Blackford scored 26 points on seven 2 pointers, 9 FTs, and 1 3 pointer.
In the second half Blackford turned it on offensively connecting for 31 points, but Eastbrook was too much scoring 44. The Lady Bruins connected on 6 2 pointers, 4 3 pointers, and 7 FTs. Eastbrook went for 12 2s, 5 3s, and 4 FTs.
Coach Mitch Waters said, “We tried to simulate what we had done last week in terms of pressure and KitKat wearing them out in hopes that late in the game they would start to fatigue and miss shots. Unfortunately, they seemed to get stronger and hit more jump shots in the second half than they did the first half.
“Eastbrook was so balanced offensively with four girls in double figures, two with with 9 points and one with eight.
It’s really difficult to beat a team that has that many scoring threats and hats off to them they earned it.
I’m proud of these girls, a special shout-out to our seniors Gracie Simmons, Khaira Westerfield and Jaycie Sones. These girls have been through a lot, they were a part of a couple of the teams that only were able to get 1 win the entire season, now they get to finish their careers as leaders of a team that has had back to back 10 win seasons and a team that got the first sectional win in 6 seasons. We couldn’t be where we are currently if it wasn’t for them and I can’t thank them enough!”
The Lady Bruins had Leas with 20, Waters with 14, Bri Stroble 8, Gracie Lamotte 5, Chloe Wicker 3, Savannah Morris, Grace Simmons, and Macy Cagle had 2.
Coach Waters gave thanks for all the support.
Thank you Blackford parents and fans for all of your efforts in a crazy year. We look forward to a great offseason with the girls as we push to get the first winning season since 2015. #bettertogether
