The Blackford Lady Bruins started the season 3-1 with a roller coaster win over the South Adams Starfires!

The first quarter the Starfires came out ready and it appeared that the game was going to be a long one for the Lady Bruins.

The Starfires were getting everything they wanted with easy buckets underneath and also tenacious full court pressure for some easy steals.

Luckily, the Lady Bruins didn’t let it get out of hand and kept it at 10-17 in the quarter with 6 from Stroble and 4 for Waters.

In the second quarter the Lady Bruins completely flipped the script and out scored South Adams 18-0 in the quarter to go into halftime with a 28-17 lead. The trio of sophomores lead the way in scoring with Leas with 7, Waters 6, Stroble 3, and Chloe Wicker had her first 2 points in a varsity game!

The third quarter went back in the Starfires favor with them outscoring us 17-8. The Starfires picked up the pressure again and bad passes, poor decision making, and playing on our heals allowed the Starfires right back into the game with a 36-34 deficit. Olivia Leas lead the team in the quarter with 6 points and Savanna Morris had 2.

In the 4th quarter the Lady Bruins held off the charge and got the victory 46-43.

Scoring

Stroble 12

Waters 11

Lamotte 3

Savanna Morris 2

Wicker 2

Coach Mitch Waters said, “Wow, talk about a roller coaster! I am so proud of our girls to battle back after being down double digits.

“It was the complete opposite last game and I can’t be more happy about our efforts and the win. South Adams has pretty much dominated us since I have been here with 30 point victories both times. Watching the first quarter I thought we were headed in the same direction, but these girls answered the call.

“When you think about it, we had four freshmen with big quality minutes and three sophomores that continued to lead the way all having double figures.

“We had major foul trouble early and I thought we could be in trouble, but they stayed discipline and got it done.”

Blackford moves to 3-1 on the season. Next up Bloomington Lighthouse at home 5 pm start for a boys and girls doubleheader.
