The boys soccer team dropped their sectional opener to Jay County 6-1. With the loss, the Bruins end a tough fall in finishing their season 1-14-1. Brayden Smith scored the lone goal off an assist from Collin Penrod.
Coach Brad Batman said, “The result was not what we were hoping for. We figured we had a chance to compete against Jay once we got the sectional draw. Two early penalty kicks were awarded to Jay County and they were able to convert both. Jay County played to their strengths of aerial traps and quick long ball switches. Their height gave us trouble all night. The team came out ready to compete in the second half. We were much more dominant on the ball and in possession which allowed us to generate more scoring opportunities.”
In talking about the Bruins goal Batman added, “Our lone goal came from a Tyler Brown corner kick played to Collin Penrod. Collin was able to get the first touch, and Brayden Smith capitalized putting it into the bottom right side of the goal. Our seniors played well tonight and kept the team motivated to compete. I’d like to thank them for their service and leadership to this team over the past few seasons.”
Players who are graduating this spring include Cameron Rinker (captain), Ethan Watt (captain), Braydon Kunz (captain), Layne Smith, Shaden Morrow, Collin Penrod, and Jackson Cranston.
