Soccer teams wins, 4-0

Blackford’s boys’ soccer team defeated Taylor, 4-0, to improve to 2-2-1 on the season. Ian Reid eared the shutout win in goal. Scoring for the Bruins were Steffen Hoover (2), Noah Ridgway and Nate Limle. Earning assists were Brayden Smith, Evan Watt, Jerrid Ker-shner, and Nate Limle. Coach Batman said, “The team showed a very ag-gressive attacking style of play tonight versus Taylor. It started with Steffen Hoover finding the back of the net off a through ball from Nate Limle. We created several opportunities in the first half that were not capitalized on. Our shots were on frame, but many did not chal-lenge the goalkeeper to make a save. Taylor’s offside trap was quite effective in the first half. However, after our halftime discussion, the team figured out how to beat their trap and netted three more goals. Jerrid Ker-shner played a great ball in between the defensive gap of Taylor to find Noah Ridgway 1 on 1 with the goal-keeper. Evan Watt connected with Hoover on a placed clearance to bring the score 3-0. Nate Limle finished a low cross from Brayden Smith after Smith beat a de-fender at the edge of the box sending a left footed out-swinger towards the 6 yd box. It was a deserved win for the Bruins who honored seniors tonight.” Seniors members of the team include Dane Baker, Tyler Brown, Steffen Hoover, Kendall Scher, Brayden Smith, and Tommie Stiles. Unfortunately, Baker and Scher were unavailable to play, but the team played to honor them in their absence. Batman added, “We were also without several oth-er players tonight, but our younger guys were ready to step up in their place. Earning another win on the season, especially on Senior Night, is a great moment for the team. We still have work to do and room to improve for our remaining matches this season.” The Bruins will host Wabash on Thursday, Sep-tember 17 at Bruin Field.
