Big CIC game on tap Friday against Eastbrook
The Bruin football team played well in a 50-6 win over Elwood (0-7) on the road Friday night.
The Bruins took the opening kickoff and wasted no time in scoring three plays later my 27-yard run by Quinten Teer. Isaac Justice ran in the conversion and the Bruins were up 8-0 less than two minutes into the game.
The Bruins held the Panthers on their first drive forcing a punt. The Bruins took over at their own 34-yard line.
The Bruins drove the field with the key play being a 13-yard pass from Caleb Mealy to Quinten Teer on 4th and 10 at the Elwood 30. Isaac Justice later scored on a 11-yard run and Ethan Miller ran in the conversion of the Bruins a 16-0 lead.
Elwood started their next drive at their 5-yard line and worked their way to the 13 before Quinten Teer picked off a pass and went untouched 15-yards for a touchdown. Conner Gulley added the PAT and Bruins were up 23-0 just over halfway through the first quarter.
A 52-yard pass set up Elwood’s first and only score on a 3-yard pass to make a 23-6.
The Bruins scored again on the next drive on a 8-yard pass from Mealy to Ethan Miller. Gulley added the kick to make it 30-6 with 9:04 to go in the half.
Elwood punted on their next drive pinning the Bruins back at their own 11 yard line. But it took just one play for Isaac Justice to race 90-yards for a touchdown. Gulley added the kick and the Bruins led 37-6.
The Bruins recovered a fumble on their next drive. A 22-yard pass from Mealy the Dalton Willman took the ball to the 5-yard line. Quinten Teer scored on the next play. Gulley’s kick was no good, but the Bruins were up 43-6. That’s the way the half ended.
With a running clock as a result of the mercy rule the second half rolled by quickly.
Quinten Teer scored on a 31-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter. Gulley added the extra point to end the scoring for the game. The Bruins went on to win 50-6.
Coach Randy Sehy said of the effort, “The team did what it needed to do to defeat a young and improving Elwood team. The offensive line played well and the defense continues to show improvement. I’m proud of the effort this team continues to give as we look forward to a big game with Eastbrook this Friday.”
The Bruins racked up 423 yards. 368 came on the ground.
Leading the Bruins was Isaac Justice with 8 carries for 186 yards. Quinten Teer carried 10 times for 93 yards. Dalton Willmann carried 10 times for 46 yards. Carson Sehy carried twice for 22 yards.
55 yards came via the air on 3-5 passing by Caleb Mealy for 40 yards. Carson Sehy completed his only pass for 15 yards.
The Panthers were held to just 111 yards. All but 2 came via the air.
Leading the defense was Isaac Justice with 2 solos and 6 assists. With 2 solos and 4 assists apiece were Scott Winger, Ethan Miller and Joey Payne.
The Bruins (5-2) host Eastbrook next Friday night at 7pm at Bruin Field.
