Hartford City’s local Civil Air Patrol squadron fielded two teams in the state-wide cadet competition held at the McKenzie Career Center in Indianapolis on Saturday, February 23, 2019. There were nine teams present, representing seven squadrons. Teams participated in six events: uniform inspection (two parts - spot inspection and uniform preparation), indoor and outdoor presentation of the colors, a written exam, a team leadership problem, and a Cadet Physical Fitness Test, consisting of a mile run. The entire squadron wore purple t-shirts for PT in memory of 1st Lt Judith Miller. Each team consisted of six cadets, another cadet as support, and two senior members as escorts. General escorts included Lt Col Gertrud Presswood and parents Nathan Austin, Tom Dornberger, and Carrie Griffin. Maj Jacqueline Miller is the squadron commander.

    Team One included C/Amn Breanna Austin, C/CMSgt Marissa Gearhart, C/CMSgt Jonathon Green, C/A1C David Holst, C/TSgt Graiden Miller, and C/TSgt Connor Miller participating; C/Amn Taylor Baker and C/SrA Jordan Griffin helped as supporting cadets, with Maj Jay Miller and 2d Lt Tamara Tipton as T1 escorts.  This team placed first in indoor presentation of the colors and physical fitness, second in written exam, and second overall.

    Team Two was composed of the following cadets: C/Amn Isabell Bauder, C/TSgt Cassandra Guffey, C/SSgt Savanna Hamilton, C/Amn Trenten Hamilton, C/TSgt Austin Wolfe, and C/Amn Nathan Wolfe; C/Amn Samantha Dornberger assisted as support; 2d Lts Jen Holst and Kim Wolfe served as T2 escorts.
