For third grade students at Southside Elementary School, learning was taken to a whole different level last week as the students spent the day learning about the country of Thailand.

It was the 13th Annual Taste of Thai Day for the school, but for these third graders, it was first time experience to learn more about the people and culture of the country located on the Indochinese peninsula in Southeast Asia.

Pradit and Mark Dawson (the brother of third grade teacher Carma Reidy) have traveled from Norman, Okla., for the past 13 years to teach students a variety of information about Thailand.

Pradit is a native of Thailand and she shares her culture, school experiences and her Thai cuisine with the students. Students are presented with lessons and photographs from Thailand. They get to look at Thailand money and learn to write in Thai.

The event culminates with a lunch menu of Thai foods specially prepared by Pradit.  The menu this year was Fried Pork, Sticky Rice, Spring Rolls, Green Tea and a special Thailand dessert.
