The Blackford Cross Country teams ran at the South Adams Invitational on Saturday. The junior high teams ran first on their 3K course with 13 schools represented. Blackford ran well with the girls placing 6th as a team and the boys 8th.
The junior high boys started the morning festivities off with Darius Osborn once again leading the team and Keaton Walker pushing him with team 2nd. They both earned medals with 10th and 16th place finishes. The next pack to storm through wrapped up the team score with Gage Baker in 48th, James Jernigan in 49th, Mason Kitterman in 50th, and Tanner Roberts in 52nd. Brothers, Sam and Jacob Barry were 7th and 8th for the team in 72nd and 85th. Charleston Slentz, Max Uggen, and Reece Walker finished off the boys team.
Cierra Faber earned a medal and a PR for the day. She finished 9th in 13:23. The next four girls finished with 20 seconds between them to complete the team score. Allie Clamme finished 2nd for the team in 34th. Abigail Slentz finished 42nd. Ammee Uggen finished 47th and Kayleigh Faber in 55th. Following those four were Karlie Pitts, Kalli Mealy and Isabelle Reid. Loralie Hile finished over half a minute faster than last year.
Coach Amanda Slentz said, “We only had one junior high PR for the day by Cierra Faber, but of our runners who ran this course last year, almost all had better times. A couple were improved by over a minute and a half! One year builds on the next and the extra running these kids did over the summer really pays off.”
