Lady Bruins pick up second win over Fort Wayne Wayne

The Lady Bruins held off the Fort Wayne Wayne Generals to win 43-38. Lady Bruins started off a little cold in the first half, but managed to go into halftime tied at 17.

After a few key adjustments the Lady Bruins jumped on the Generals and went up 31-23 after the 3rd. The Lady Bruins looked like they were going to coast to start the 3rd, but the Generals added a bunch of pressure and were able to battle back and make it a close game.

The Lady Bruins were able to do just enough at the end to come out with the five point victory.

Coach Mitch Waters said, “We knew that they were going to be a tough opponent. They play fast and they are big! We didn’t have a stop for #30 O’Quinn. She was a handful underneath and we just couldn’t seem to figure out a way to stop her.

“However, even though we struggled to stop her, we did just enough to hold them off and get our second victory.

“Our girls are really starting to gel a little more and trust each other more. The ball movement was great tonight and if we can start to knock some more shots down we really feel like we will be in every game.”

Blackford falls to talented

South Adams team 56-26

The Lady Bruins got beat 56-26 against South Adams. In the first quarter the Lady Bruins fell behind 19-8.

The second quarter didn’t go any better for Blackford as they were unable to score falling behind 27-8.

The Lady Bruins worked hard in the 3rd scoring 13, but it was too little too late for the Lady Bruins.

Coach Mitch Waters said, “We talked about three things we needed to do in order to have success. They included limiting turnovers, controling the basketball, and playing good defense.

“Unfortunately, we came up short in all of them. South Adams came with a completely different approach to the game than what we have seen all season and it really rattled our girls tonight. We talked about it and figured that’s what we would see, but I didn’t do a good enough job as a coach simulating it in practice.

“I’ll take the loss on my shoulders, because our girls played scared and my only thought is because we didn’t do enough at practice to handle their pressure better. The upside is, a lot of girls played tonight and got some varsity experience.

“I was very impressed by the efforts of Kiley Eppard, Cayley Hodges, Macy Cagle, and Alexa Hurd (Who just came back from injury) They all gave everything they had and didn’t back down!”
