The Blackford Lady Bruins traveled to Eastbrook to take on the Panthers and came up just short.

The Lady Bruins did a fantastic job in the first two quarters of playing defense. They only allowed 11 points total in the first half. Unfortunately, they didn’t score much more themselves with 14 first-half points.

The third quarter was much of the same for the Lady Bruins only scoring 6 points while Eastbrook came out with 13 to take a 24-20 lead.

Blackford battled back hard and had the game within two points in the fourth quarter, but Eastbrook connected on a big three-point basket and clutch free throws down the stretch to ice the game 42-36.

Coach Mitch Waters said, ” I really felt like we had that game. The girls played wonderful defense only giving up 11 points which is one of the lowest scoring halves of the season, but we just couldn’t seem to knock down the open shots when we needed to to take over the game. We ended up shooting 4 of 18 from 2 and 7 of 24 from three-point line. The biggest kicker was probably 11 turnovers against a 2-3 Zone. It is very difficult to win basketball games when you turn the ball over against mediocre pressure.

The freshmen once again led the way in scoring with Olivia Waters at 14 and Olivia Leas at 11 giving us 25 of our 36 total points. Grace Simmons added six points, Jaycie Sones added three and Helen Whitesell had two. The outcome definitely wasn’t what we were expecting, and it hurts to be on a negative streak like we are, but I still believe we have a great shot to make a run in sectional and we will do everything possible to do it!”

Next up is sectional against Taylor Friday night at Eastbrook. Game time is 6 pm.
