The Lady Bruins played a very hard-fought game but came out just a little short at the end falling to CIC foe Ole Miss 45-34.

The Bruins were trailing 11 to 9 after the first quarter. Although they could only manage to score 3 points in the second quarter, defensively, they held Ole Miss to six which kept them in the game.

Blackford came out really hungry in the third quarter outscoring the Mississinewa Indians 15 to 13. Unfortunately, too many missed free throws and a couple of close calls at the end of the game swayed the momentum into Mississinewa’s favor and they came out with the 45 to 34 conference victory.

Coach Mitch Waters said,  “I’m extremely proud of how hard we played the entire game. We came in with the mindset that if we played with more grit and hustle we would have a chance and would win this game. Unfortunately, 14 missed free throws really affected us down the stretch. We work on them all the time, so I’m not sure what else to do, but I believe it’s more mental than anything at this point.

I cannot be more proud of our girls going into an environment like that and really stepping up to the next level. The game might have finished with an 11-point loss, but everyone knows it was much closer than that, and considering we were picked to lose by 20, we definitely gave them a scare tonight on their floor.”

Leading the way in scoring was Olivia Leas with 16 points, Olivia Waters with 13 points, two points a piece from Reagan Harding and Jaycie Sones, and one point from Grace Simmons.

The Lady Bruins fall to 10-8 on the season 4-1 in the CIC. Next up, the Bruins face another CIC foe in Frankton on Saturday, January 25th at 7:30pm.
