The Godfroy Reserve was a tract of land allotted to Chief Francois Godfroy, chief of an American native tribe, the Miami Nation, by United States government treaty. The reserve is located along the Salamonie River in Blackford County, Indiana.
Join the Friends of the Hartford City Public Library and the Blackford County Historical Society on Wednesday, November 13 at 6:00 p.m. located at the Blackford County Arts Center, 107 W. Washington St., Hartford City for a special presentation about the Godfroy Reserve of Blackford County and the Reservation of Myaamia (Miami) Chief Francois Godfroy from local resident Bryon Maddox.
Maddox grew up on the Godfroy Reserve and has devoted countless time towards researching its history for more than 30 years.
During his presentation you will learn about the reservation including its size, its inhabitants, the interactions with early settlers and the importance of the reserve to Indiana’s early history.
